13 Greatest Moments In WWE Survivor Series History
10. Team Bischoff Vs. Team Austin - Survivor Series 2003
Another entry that makes the list despite being an entire match-up, but again this one’s deserving of a mention for the story that was built ahead of the meeting, as well as an epic climax to the actual contest itself.
Here, the pre-match focus revolved around Stone Cold Steve Austin’s future as co-General Manager of Raw. Having been a little too physical in his approach to man management, Austin had been forbidden from laying a hand on anyone on the Raw roster. With Survivor Series on the horizon though, Austin was given the chance to have his ban lifted, provided he could assemble a winning team at the imminent PPV. On the other hand, if his side lost then he’d be out of a job and Eric Bischoff would become the sole GM of Raw.
Simply put, everything was to play for, and it all came to a dramatic head in the closing minutes of the match itself. Shawn Michaels, of Team Austin, found himself all on his tod against Christian, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton.
Even so, Michaels battled right to the end as he knocked off both Christian and Jericho, prompting a late melee with Austin getting involved and unloading on Bischoff, before Batista inferred to hand Orton a win over a battered and bloodied Michaels.
The outcome may have been a disappointing one, but the journey to get there—and the post-match moment between Michaels and Austin—is rather more fondly remembered.
