Throughout much of 2011, the big story in WWE was that John Cena and the Rock straight-up didn’t like each other. In fact, the very next night after WrestleMania XXVII, the two had agreed to face each other at the following year’s WrestleMania, and yet here at Survivor Series 2011 the pair were forced to team with one another against R-Truth and the Miz.

Naturally the threat of tensions boiling over made this a must-see show, but on top of that drama there was the added spectacle of this being the Rock’s first professional wrestling match since WrestleMania XX in 2004.

Fittingly, it all went down in Madison Square Garden, WWE's spiritual home and the very same venue in which it all began for the Rock a decade-and-a-half prior. Oh, and this time he had no trouble finding the hardcam.

Rock’s performance in the match was probably rather better than many might expected. Sure, he wasn’t quite the same guy who’d last competed more than seven years ago—that much was apparent in his physique—but he could certainly still go and even managed to wow the crowd with a rare La Magistral pinning attempt.

As you might expect, it was the Rock who eventually picked up the win, and just as predictably he then closed the show by hitting Cena with a Rock Bottom. All in all, it made for a cracking spectacle and a night to savour in Survivor Series history.
