Many fans would consider 1998 to be the greatest year in pro wrestling history, with Stone Cold Steve Austin at his absolute peak and a great supporting cast with The Undertaker, Mick Foley, The Rock and other attractions like Sable. It was unmissable television, must-watch pay-per-views, and sold out house shows.

The accounting period for '98 started in May, running to April 1999, so there's also that to consider, as those first few months of 99 when The Rock versus Austin feud was arguably the WWE's zenith. They had exploded all over pop culture, and for a while, pro wrestling was cool. Fans couldn't get enough, and the money flooded in.
