Despite the fact that Rey conclusively won the feud between the two (he had beaten Eddie countless times and he had his son back), WWE couldn't resist booking one more big match between the two. Their final televised match took place on the September 9th, 2005 SmackDown, inside a steel cage. WWE booked the match because SmackDown was moving to Friday nights and they needed a loaded card to help draw viewers to the new day (SmackDown had previously aired on Thursdays). The two had another good match, and made good use of their mesh surroundings, performing moves into and off of the cage. In a bit of a change from the norm, it was Eddie who got the clean pin to officially draw a line under the feud - instead of escaping the cage, Eddie stopped and nailed Rey with a Frogsplash, finally getting the 1-2-3 and the monkey off his back. His dispute with Mysterio now over, Eddie would move on to a programme with World Heavyweight Champion Batista. He'd certainly earned the spot over the past six months and his superb work in his feud with Mysterio. Rey came out of the feud looking better than he had going in and was on his way up the card.
