13 Reasons To Love Eddie Guerrero Vs. Rey Mysterio In WWE

11. WWE Title Match - SmackDown, March 18th 2004

Amazingly, Rey and Eddie would have to wait another year-and-a-half before they'd have the chance to lock horns in singles action again. In fact, the two didn't face off once in 2003, in any type of match. It was worth the wait, though, since the two men put on another wonderful match when booked against one another in the main event of the post-WrestleMania XX SmackDown. SmackDown General Manager Paul Heyman had set a gauntlet earlier in the show, with a shot at Eddie's WWE Title eventually going to the winner. Rey survived Shelton Benjamin and the Big Show in order to receive his shot. The fresher Guerrero took control of the match following some exemplary technical wrestling and some typically jaw-dropping Mysterio lucha antics, grounding the master of the 619 and working the arm. Rey, ever the fighter, battled back but, regrettably, the two men cocked up the old 'springboard backflip into a DDT' (which they've only really been able to nail at Halloween Havoc 1997, and even that was by accident). The two men shook it off and went into the finishing stretch, trading signature moves and near-falls before Eddie avoided a springboard legdrop and la magistral cradled Rey for the win. Another loss for Rey to Eddie, but that trend was about to change...
