13 Reasons To Love Eddie Guerrero Vs. Rey Mysterio In WWE

10. Tag Team Rivals To Tag Team Champions

In late 2004/early 2005, Rey and Eddie were on opposite sides of yet more tag matches. Eddie teamed with Booker T to take on WWE Tag Team Champions Rey and Rob Van Dam on the December 30th, 2004 episode of SmackDown. A rare all babyface affair, this was another superlative effort, with Rey and Eddie's exchanges being the best thing about the match. Ultimately, Rey would pin Eddie, setting off a chain of events that would see Eddie doubt himself and make him determined to prove he could beat his longtime friend/rival. A couple of weeks later, Rey would get the better of Eddie once again in a multi-team tag match (also featuring the Basham Brothers and Orlando Jordan & Luther Reigns). On the January 13th, 2005 episode of SmackDown, Rey pinned Eddie with a surprise hurricanrana, eliminating Eddie and Booker T from the match. The Bashams would then beat Rey and RVD for the gold, however, after injuring Mr. Thursday Night (a kayfabe explanation to excuse RVD while he had major knee surgery). Rey wanted his rematch but he needed a new partner. Naturally, he chose Guerrero. The two defeated The Bashams in the opener of the No Way Out PP in a fine effort. They were champions together, yes, but their days fighting each other were far from over.
