13 Things We Learned From DDP On The Steve Austin Show Part 2

11. Rediscovering His Love For Wrestling

DDP says it was important to him that Jake Roberts not be remembered as a junkie, but as one of the greatest wrestlers ever, then credits him for helping him get back into being a fan after his appreciation for it had lapsed. After an unsuccessful attempt at breaking into the business in his early 20s, DDP has given up on wrestling, and when the boom period hit in the 1980s, he refused to watch it out of resentment at not being a part of it. He talks about being into it when he was younger but he had moved onto other things, until one night when he's flipping channels and he stumbles upon Jesse Ventura who immediately caught his attention. The first match he saw featured Jake, and his charisma and mystique drew him in, and after that he was back on board as a full-fledged fan, a spark that would lead him to his own wrestling stardom.
