13 Things We Learned From Finn Balor On Talk Is Jericho

8. The Bullet Club

We get into a discussion on the origin of The Bullet Club, the hottest non-WWE faction since the nWo. Balor says that the original idea - which he pitched - was for it to be just he and Bad Luck Fale as his bouncer, in roles similar to Shawn MIchaels and Kevin Nash. Gedo then decided to lump all the foreign guys in together, which included Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson Tama Tonga (who is the adopted son of Haku/Meng). Balor didn't want the stable to have a typical three-letter name, and he didn't want it to sound like other crews, so he ran through ideas in his head in an attempt to tie everyone in together. At the time he was known as "The Real Shooter" and used a finger-gun gesture toward his opponent, and that, combined with Anderson being known as Machine Gun led him to the word bullet. He tried several different variations such as Bullet League but ultimately settled on Club. Jericho talks about how incredibly over the stable was and is, and Balor says he thinks it's because they were the only ones doing actual proper heel work. He said the fans resented him because he changed his offense from high spots and dives to eye pokes and groin shots, and that the fans felt like he'd turned his back on the entire Japanese culture. He says that New Japan actually had to set up a hotline to field complaints from fans who would call to air their grievances with his dastardly ways.
