13 Things We Learned From Luke Harper On Talk Is Jericho

12. Almost Giving Up

Jericho calls Luke a "ten year overnight sensation", saying that he'd already traveled the world wrestling before he ever joined WWE. He replies that he started his career in 2001, and began working internationally in 2007, touring Germany, Japan and England. Upon returning from his last trip to Japan in 2010, Luke did some reevaluating. His wife was pregnant at the time and he had already been blown off by WWE on several occasion, doing work as an extra 19 times. He says he was always too big to do a job, and the appearances never amounted to anything and he told his wife he didn't think wrestling was going to work long term. He decided it was time to move on and try something else and planned to hang it up at the end of the year. Then Joey Mercury called him up in December and invited him to a tryout in January, which he accepted. He went down and worked a match with Dean Ambrose, and two days after the birth of his child he received a call from Johnny Ace offering him a contract.
