13 Triple H WWE Projects That Failed Miserably
1. His Own Masterplan For 2002
In 2002, Triple H had his dream all figured out. The plan was perfect, he'd return from injury and win the Royal Rumble. He'd then go on to wrestle one of the best workers in the company, Chris Jericho, in the main event of WrestleMania X8. It would surely be a classic match and he'd become WWE Champion, setting him up for a year of dominance as the franchise star. This was going to be his Austin style face run, battling from the Rumble to glory at Mania. But even the best made plans can go wrong. The project was already wobbling due to the lame booking of Jericho's character as Stephanie's sideshow. What should have been a hot wrestler feud was in fact mostly Stephanie versus Triple H. But what really killed Hunter's 2002 project to make himself a star, was the re-emergence of an old star in one of the mid-card Mania matches. Hulk Hogan was greeted with one of the loudest and most continuous pops in company history for his match with The Rock. It totally overshadowed Triple H's main event with Jericho. The Game ended up winning a poor main event in a match that no one cared about. The next day people were only talking about Hulk Hogan, so much so that Vince McMahon booked Hogan to defeat Triple H for the title at the next special event! Hunter's big project for an iconic WrestleMania match that would make him a legend had failed miserably.
