13 Ups & 1 Down From Impact Wrestling (Jun 2)

1. Building A Star

As it pertains to The Rascalz, it's more often than not Dez and Wentz as the tag team of the trio (as we saw earlier in the show), and Trey as the singles star. That was still scheduled to be the case, with Trey revisiting his rivalry with Ace Austin in the tournament finals. However, a pre-match backstage assault would see Wentz storm the ring in pursuit of Ace, with management's Scott D'Amore making the match official.

That turned out to be one of the best decisions made in quite some time. We don't get to see too much of Wentz in singles competition, which is a massive shame given what he's capable of by himself. Given the nature of Trey's ambush that left him a bloodied mess, we saw an entirely different side to Wentz than the one we're accustomed to. He was far more vicious in his tactics throughout the match, striking 'The One True Ace' several times directly in the jaw.

While he didn't come out victorious in the finals, Wentz was solidified as a bonafide star from this performance alone. He was always a decent wrestler, as we know from his tag/trios matches alongside Dez and/or Trey. However, we need to see more of his singles work. It would be a mammoth mistake on Impact management's part if they didn't him flourish more in singles action after what we saw against a former X Division Champion.
