13 Ups & 1 Down From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Feb 26)

7. A Fitting Tribute

The pre-advertised contract signing for Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship match began with a glowing tribute to the challenger, whose livewire in-ring performances have seen him fast become SmackDown's MVP in recent weeks.

This was earned. An 11-year company veteran, the past few shows have reminded us just how good Kingston can be on his day. It's easy to forget this, given that he barely wrestles singles bouts and is frequently left out of New Day tags (with the same frequency as his two partners), so it was heartening and refreshing to see WWE dedicating so much time to highlighting his skills and accomplishments during SmackDown's opener.

A typically well-crafted video package was the main method of delivery. Featuring some of Kofi's greatest accomplishments, it was an awesome warm-up to the New Day man's ring entrance, and ensured he received a thunderous reception from a crowd that has never been so firmly behind him. All Daniel Bryan could do was sit and sulk in response.
