13 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown On FOX (Oct 4)

3. Kill The King

Complaining about those very WWE segments in which someone from the past shows up to batter a full-time roster member is common, but context is key. The participants matter. Not every legend's beatdown is a burial, as was demonstrated last night, with The Rock and Becky Lynch joining forces to take Baron Corbin out.

This was bloody marvellous. It began with the King of the Ring interrupting 'The Man' and her show-opening promo, before The Rock's theme music blasted around the building to a massive form. 'The Brahma Bull' was in classic form thereafter, ripping into Corbin, his costume, and everything else, with Becky claiming that if she had testicles, they'd be bigger than Baron's.

Corbin tried to blast back by insulting LeBron James, but nah. That didn't work. Rather than getting the better of the babyfaces, Corbin got whooped, eating a People's Elbow, a Lynch leg drop, and the Rock Bottom before rolling out of the ring, leaving Dwayne and Becky reigning supreme.

Lynch got a decent rub by standing with Rocky and Corbin's character is calibrated for moments like this. He's a guy who lives to eat sh*t, and there's nothing wrong with said sh*t being served by 'The Man' and WWE's biggest mainstream crossover star.
