13 Ups & 4 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2019

Bringing back old faces from the past can often be a nice sight in professional wrestling, but not when it's done to death. Impact brought in several former ECW stars during 2019, with Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, and The Sandman all appearing to varying levels of success, alongside the fairly recent addition of Ken Shamrock.

There's no harm in bringing these names in - as stated in the opening paragraph, it can be nice to see them, but not when they're being featured more heavily than some current stars who should be getting the pushes. For example, Rob Van Dam has been a main attraction since his full-time return to the Impact roster in spring, with a first-time encounter with Brian Cage set for Hard to Kill. While you could argue that having a name of his calibre adds star power to the show, it takes screen time away from others who would benefit more. The likes of Daga and the Crist brothers aren't even on the pay-per-view card when they perhaps should be.

Ken Shamrock could be classed as an exception to this statement, as he's only been brought in to put other guys over. Yes, RVD did lose to Moose at Slammiversary which would be classed as an upset victory, but he's since been plastered over the weekly shows alongside the unbearable Katie Forbes. In the case of 'The World's Most Dangerous Man', he's put over Moose, Joey Ryan, and Madman Fulton thus far.

As long as Shamrock loses to Fulton on 12 January, he'll remain the only exception. Until then, the general idea of pushing these legends for no real reason remains a Down.
