13 Ups And 23 Downs For WWE In 2020

Downs...

23. Morrison’s Wasted Return

You would think the return of an athletic, good-looking wrestler who has improved his mic skills and won several world championships in other promotions would provide a shot in the arm for WWE, that the company would position this superstar in the upper card to become an impact player for the promotion.

But John Morrison’s return to WWE did not lead to a main event run. It didn’t even lead to a midcard run. The Friday Night Delight instead turned back the clock to 2008 and teamed back up with The Miz as a tag team. While that was a pretty big step down from what some thought possible, a run as SmackDown Tag Team Champions could then be parlayed into something bigger.

Yes, Miz & Morrison won the tag titles, but it was an uneventful run, and the year wound down with Morrison serving as Miz’s echo and flunky while he tried unsuccessfully to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase (more on that fiasco much later). Morrison was nothing more than a more talented Alex Riley or Miztourage.

Sorry JoMo fans, but that’s the truth: Morrison is just an athletic Bo Dallas these days.
