13 Ups And 23 Downs For WWE In 2020

5. A Miracle Comeback

Edge Royal Rumble
WWE

If you had said a year ago that Edge would make a comeback in 2020, most fans would have scoffed at the idea… though they would have held out hope.

And let’s face it: Edge’s comeback fell short of expectations due to injury, but for the first part of the year, it was a fun ride. First, the Rated-R Superstar was the big surprise entrant into the Royal Rumble, popping the crowd (remember when that was a thing?) beyond belief when his music hit. Edge lasted for a good while in the Rumble, showing that this was more than just some nostalgia run, before he was tossed.

That set up a WrestleMania 36 match against former tag partner Randy Orton, a match that went far too long and thus didn’t live up to expectations, but it was a big victory for Edge nonetheless. Then we got the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever,” a poorly named bout that actually was pretty good, but unfortunately led to Edge getting injured and halting his comeback for the rest of the year.

Hopefully, we haven’t seen the last of the Ultimate Opportunist, and he’ll return in 2021 to close out his career on his terms. But seeing him come back after thinking he’d never wrestle again was enough to merit a spot on this list.
