13 Ups And 23 Downs For WWE In 2020
6. Hurt Business Gets The Gold
While WWE failed multiple times to build up new acts in 2020, they did succeed with one stable… after some early failures.
The Hurt Business looked like a directionless, stuck-in-the-mud group that was forever battling Apollo Crew and company for the early part of 2020, but the past few months, the group turned the corner in a big way.
First, Bobby Lashley won the United States Championship and began dominating his opponents, looking like the big star many thought he would be when he returned to WWE last year. But then, the Hurt Business ended its feud with Crews, recruiting Cedric Alexander to fill out the group, and then waving bye to Apollo as he was drafted to SmackDown.
The Hurt Business trounced RETRIBUTION in a mini-feud, and then the group closed out 2020 winning the Raw Tag Team Championship. Sure, it wasn’t a straight line of progression for the group, but given all the shortcomings with WWE’s writing efforts, we’ll give strong marks to the Hurt Business for being one of the few bright spots overall.
After all, what other group took a floundering Lashley, an under-utilized talent in Alexander, and a bit-player in Shelton Benjamin and turned them into a legit threat?
