This writer has had a love/hate relationship with the 24/7 Championship. Initially, the title was panned for being joke… until the joke actually became hilarious. All credit to guys like R-Truth, Drake Maverick and Jinder Mahal for making it work.

But in 2020, we saw the 24/7 title become nothing more than a running joke that just wasn’t funny. Maybe it was the global health crisis locking operations down in Florida that limited creativity with the title, but “defenses” became formulaic, as Truth would somehow get duped out of the title, only to win it back later that night. He would battle Akira Tozawa and his ninjas (yes, ninjas), Lucha House Party and Drew Gulak constantly, sometimes backstage, and sometimes in actual “matches” that lasted about 30 seconds in the ring.

Through it all, the ratio of humorous moments for the 24/7 Championship has dwindled to next-to-none. Sure, one week might get a couple chuckles, but by and large, the title is well past its sell-by date. Time to bury it and move on.
