14 Biggest Pops In WWE History

4. The British Bulldog Gets A Home Win - SummerSlam 1992

That video is worth watching in its entirety, because as well as being one of the best matches in WWF/WWE history, it€™s one large sustained pop from the moment the Bulldog€™s music hits to the finish. WWF had become suddenly huge in the UK in 1991 and 1992, and Vince McMahon had made the executive decision to have Wembley Stadium host Summerslam in August 1992. It paid off in spades €“ reports have the stadium selling out over 80,000 tickets in 10 hours for the company€™s third biggest crowd of all time €“ second biggest if, like most people, you believe that the McMahons lied through their teeth about how many people were at Wrestlemania III. The centerpiece of the night wouldn€™t be the WWF championship match between the Ultimate Warrior and €˜the Macho Man€™ Randy Savage, or the Undertaker€™s match against the Ugandan giant Kamala €“ it was €˜the British Bulldog€™ Davey Boy Smith€™s home victory to lift the Intercontinental title from his brother-in-law Bret €˜The Hitman€™ Hart. Hart would, years after Smith€™s death, claim that the Wigan native was not only panicking before and during the match, but that he€™d been smoking crack for weeks beforehand, including the night before flying to England, and was knackered after only a few minutes in the ring: Hart says he found himself carrying the Bulldog through the entire match, calling every single move and spot in the ring to the completely clueless and blown-up Smith. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp_9wFNMpTk Whether that€™s completely true or not is debatable: both men look like a million dollars and go like the clappers throughout the entire match, and Bret Hart€™s biggest mark has always been the Hitman himself. What€™s absolutely not in question is the quality of the finished product, and the crowd€™s reaction€ both are ballistic, simply incredible. Skip to around 26 minutes through for the finishing sequence if you€™re short on time €“ but we recommend you watch the whole thing for a masterclass in professional wrestling.
