These columns have long lamented how the United States Championship – not the Intercontinental Championship – should have been defended in a ladder match, and the IC title should be contested between champ Kevin Owens and longtime rival Sami Zayn.

But rather than lament further, let’s ask the really big question here: Is this ladder match (which now has three extraneous participants in Stardust, Sin Cara and Zack Ryder) just a pretense for a KO/Zayn feud? Perhaps Zayn is about to grab the gold and Owens does something underhanded to prevent him from winning and then retrieves his IC title himself. That would then set up a feud between the two that could carry through the spring.

It’s not like Dolph Ziggler or the Miz (the other two participants) are suddenly going to claim the title and run wild with it. Owens/Zayn is the money feud going forward, so maybe that’s what we’ll see come of this fun car crash.
