14 Hot Takes On The Week In Wrestling (Jan 13th)

11. His Time Is Not Now

What is it with WWE and shoulder injuries in the last twelve months? Jey Uso. Hideo Itami. Sami Zayn. Randy Orton. Cesaro. Now Sin Cara and John Cena. This week the news came out that Cena's shoulder injury was a little worse than anticipated, and he'll almost certainly be out for six months. That takes him out of contention for Wrestlemania 32, never mind the Royal Rumble, where he seems set to have won back the United States Championship from the blank-eyed golem wearing Alberto Del Rio's skin. I would never dream of crowing over a significant injury caused to a professional wrestler. But the injuries to Sin Cara and Cena have cleared the way for Kalisto to have a surprising singles opportunity, and with Cena not working the Grandest Stage Of Them All, there's a huge spot open for one of the younger guys to come in and make a name for themselves. Scuttlebutt (like gossip with a bum wing) says that Cena was pencilled in to wrestle the Undertaker on April 3rd. Now that that's not happening, who can possibly take Big Match John's place? Some people are talking up The Rock... but even if he can get cleared to wrestle by whichever movie insurer owns him that week, surely WWE will want him and the Dead Man in separate matches to maximise the star power in these injury-prone times? No, my money's on Kevin Owens. His asshole heel character has elements of CM Punk's old character when he faced 'Taker at Wrestlemania 29, and that went down a storm... and Owens has been teasing being keen on the idea in interviews.
