14 Things We Learned From Daniel Bryan On Talk Is Jericho
6. Grappling
Bryan said he started back doing some grappling while he was recovering - something he's trained extensively in the past - at the MMA Lab in Glendale, Arizona, which is the home gym of former UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson. He trained wearing a gi for the first time in hopes of strengthening the intrinsic muscles in his hand. This led Bryan to start pondering if it was feasible for him to continue his career with the use of only his one good hand, making a comparison to one-legged wrestler Zack Gowen. Daniel's original grappling coach, Neil Melanson - who's also coached former UFC champions Randy Couture and Vitor Belfort, along with Chael Sonnen - used to use only his legs when rolling with opponents in order to challenge himself. Bryan credits his time working BJJ with helping him get back on track to recovery.
