WWE's own 'Once In A Lifetime' branding would come back to bite them when they repeated John Cena vs. The Rock 12 months after the original. There wasn't the same sense of anticipation for the rematch as there had been for the first at WrestleMania XXVIII, that's for sure. If only Rock and Cena hadn't tried to go 30 minutes.

This was Rocky's first major singles match in WWE since 2003. He had worked tag matches in the years since, but it was a little ambitious to spend 30 minutes of pay-per-view time shaving off that ring rust in 'Mania's main event. That average-at-best match quality shouldn't detract from the fact that John Cena did the clean job.

Had this one lasted 15 minutes and been packed with the dramatic near falls fans have come to expect from WrestleMania headliners, then it might be more fondly remembered. As things stand, few even remember that Cena lost cleanly due to the disappointing quality and the fact that WWE promoted a rematch the next year.
