14 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (20 Nov)

1. A Perfect Pro-Wrestling Segment

Chris Jericho Scorpio Sky
AEW

AEW Dynamite's very first episode proved that this promotion knew how to put a layered, explosive angle together, and last night's Chris Jericho announcement turned into one of their finest yet.

That there were so many moving parts here makes this one tough to unpack within the usual wordcount, though the segment never felt as overcrowded as last week's. It began during the commercial, with Jericho and Jake Hager talking sh*t and generally bullying a bunch of people including the Librarians and Marko Stunt, which became important when Jurassic Express ran out towards the end. "Put a shirt on, kid. It's cold out here and you might get sick," Jericho said to the pint-sized flier.

As always, 'Le Champion' demonstrated world-class crowd control by turning his entrance pop into jeers ("nobody gets real heat in AEW" remains one of the sport's most misguided takes) with just a few lines. His promo saw Jake Hager (perfectly cast as the strong, silent heavy) finally open his mouth to say "sorry" when Jericho couldn't get the words out while addressing last week's tantrum, and while it looked like Jericho's "big announcement" was that the real announcement would come next week in Chicago, SoCal Uncensored had other ideas.

Scorpio Sky, the man who handed 'The Alpha' his first loss last week, channelled Bugs Bunny to goad Jericho into giving him a title shot. Him, Christopher Daniels, and Frankie Kazarian claimed Scorp wasn't ready. They said he needed more time to prepare, and so Jericho, that overconfident goof, booked the match himself... and baby, we're getting a surefire barnburner in the Windy City.

The Jericho promo was as fantastically quotable as ever, but props to Sky for stepping up on the microphone. He more than held his own in there with one of the sport's greatest ever talkers and after promising to make 'Le Champion' "Le Bitch" in Chicago, it's hard not to be excited about the title fight.
