14 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Aug 22)

10. Will Hobbs Shows Out In Defeat

Viewers who don't watch Dark may have been unfamiliar with Will Hobbs prior to Dynamite. This big beefy boy has been a regular enhancement highlight on the web series, elevating his bouts with dazzling power spots, even though he always plays a losing role. Thus, facing Darby Allin tonight felt like a just reward.

Though Allin attacked him at the bell, Hobbs was allowed to showcase his strength, launching Darby approximately 500ft into the air on more than one occasion. The size difference and sheer impressiveness of Hobbs' offense warranted his control period, elevating this beyond a simple squash, with Allin getting a stronger rub for having to overcome genuine punishment en route to an earned victory, fighting back with trademark tenacity.

A shortform hoot.
