14 Ups & 2 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion 2021

2. Trey Miguel's Death

So, Sami Callihan vs. Trey Miguel. What a blast.

Their last man standing bout was as crazy as you’d expect it to be. It wasn’t your run of the mill weapons-filled brawl. If such a thing was a video game, this match would have been the ultimate boss battle.

Effectively an assault of Trey Miguel’s entire body until the very last moments, Sami Callihan worked great in the role of screw it, I’ll just try murder him. It goes without saying how great he works in this sort of match. Even with that in mind, you’re still left gawping at some of the things we saw in this match.

When producing a match with a high amount of sick spots, it’s imperative that you space them out. If you put them one after the other, then a) it’ll be immediately deemed a spot-fest, and b) you’re at risk of legitimately killing Trey Miguel.

The biggest spot Callihan was on the receiving end of was the match-ending cutter off the steps and through a table at ringside. All things considered, he got it easy. Miguel’s unique way to avoid defeat – he was trapped underneath the steps as Callihan sat on them, instead popping out from under the ring apron – added a nice laugh to this at the end.

This was stereotypical indie wrestling executed with a perfect degree of artistry. Props to both lads here.
