14 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Dec 4)

3. Chasing Maxwell

Cody Tony Schiavone
AEW

As promised, the good of Cody's in-ring promo... IE: most of it.

Cody's delivery is impeccable. It's part of why he comes off as a bigger deal in this promotion than anywhere else he has wrestled throughout his career, and he started strongly, calling his new scar a reminder of his failures. He spoke on Chris Jericho and never being able to challenge for the AEW World Title again, then on The Butcher and the Blade, who he challenged to pick his partner for a tag bout next week. From there, he touched on Brandi's new hair-snipping tilt, all his friends being occupied as The Butcher and the Blade beat on him, and, of course, MJF's betrayal.

Calling MJF a "bush league NWO version of Chris Jericho," Cody admitted that he was naive to think he could make his "bad guy" his protégé. "They're waiting, I'm waiting, let's do this!" he said, and the chase is on.

Keeping young Maxwell out of this was a smart move as the story is already about him avoiding Cody's chase. Obstacle after obstacle will be thrown at 'The American Nightmare,' with The Butcher and the Blade the first, Wardlow a likely second, and more soon to follow. Regardless, a full-on promo battle between Cody and MJF later down the line sounds incredible.
