14 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Dec 4)
4. A New Challenger Approaches
Another week, another fabulous Chris Jericho promo, with 'Le Champion' (not 'El Champion, JR) turning Champaign's cheers to jeers by running down the crowd, drawing a "Tony Khan" chant by claiming nobody from the town has even been as successful as 'The Alpha,' before pulling out a goddamn list.
Here's the thing about lists, though: per Jericho, they're so 2016. Thus, this latest list of people (whom he wouldn't be defending his World Title against) as The Lexicon of Le Champion. On it was every name he refused to face: Jon Moxley, Cody, Jon Moxley, The Young Bucks, Papa Buck, Uncle Buck, Jon Moxley, Scorpio Sky, 2 Cold Scorpio, every member of The Scorpions, Jon Moxley, etc. etc.
Luchasaurus and Jurassic Express weren't on that list, but it was Jungle Boy, not the big man, who stepped up. Jericho ran him down, calling him a "piece of sh*t who couldn't last 10 minutes against me," and we're now set for a fun fill-in defence on 18 December.
People will dump on this piece of booking, though they're likely the same people dumping on the company for not creating new stars. Well, here's an attempt. This is also a neat way to book around win/loss records. Jericho chose Jungle Boy. They established that the opponent was his to choose in the promo's very first minute, so of course he picked a guy with a shoddy record who he thinks he'll smash in a few minutes. It makes sense.
