14 Wrestlers With Winning Records Over Hulk Hogan

5. Sting

The Mountie Hulk Hogan
WWE

This entry isn't too dissimilar to that of the Rock.

The basic gist is that, years later, as opposed to the result, people only really remember the one famous individual performance - and that one famous performance cemented the perception of Sting in WCW forevermore.

If wrestling booking was as simple as top babyface holds dominant win/loss record over top heel, things might have turned out differently for World Championship Wrestling. After all, in their 14 singles encounters - Sting also defeated Hogan in TNA years later - Hogan never "won" on one single solitary occasion. Three matches were thrown out following some schmozz or other, and if you don't count those, Sting is 11-0 versus Hogan in WCW. They wrestled four times on pay-per-view. Four times, on the big stage no less, Sting kicked Hogan's ass (on paper).

But it isn't that simple, is it?

On the one night where it truly mattered - Starrcade '97 - heel ref Nick Patrick was meant to do the fast count gimmick in order to facilitate the intervention of Bret Hart. Under the alleged instruction of Hogan, Patrick counted normally. Sting had to lie there and take it, looking beaten fair and square, because that was the script.

Th magic was gone - you only get one chance to pay off such an epic storyline - and it wouldn't have mattered had Sting went on to beat Hogan 100 times after that sabotage.
