14 Wrestlers With Winning Records Over Hulk Hogan

3. Lex Luger

The rivalry between Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger unfolded onscreen and off.

Luger, you could argue, did his first job to Hulk when they weren't even in the same promotion in failing to become the next Hogan in the WWF of 1993.

One match of their actual series of 10 ended in a no-contest. Luger won five, Hogan won four. It was effectively 50/50, but the inverse of the Sting story is true in the case of Luger; the most famous Luger Vs. Hogan match transpired on the August 4, 1997 Nitro on which Luger, shockingly, won the World title. Tony Schiavone was gently mocked for his "greatest night in the history of our sport" bit, but it almost applied in that moment. The atmosphere in that building was total off-the-charts jubilation.

More people remember that match than, for example, the time Hogan defeated the renamed 'Total Package' at SuperBrawl X in 2000. This was something of an indignity, the name change, as if Lex Luger was so passé or boring that people needed to disassociate from him. Which was rather difficult when he was renamed to his incredibly famous nickname. That was WCW logic for you.

On names, Luger will always have the most popular transitional title reign ever to his.
