14 WWE Wrestlers With The Longest Gaps Between Title Reigns

8. Tommy Dreamer - 9 Years, Two Months

Bob Backlund WWF Title
WWE

Dreamer won the ECW title the first time under highly unusal circumstances. Though he had wrestled for ECW almost from the beginning, Dreamer didn’t win any title (and in real life, he didn’t want to) until 1999, preventing the Dudley Boyz from taking the ECW tag team titles to the WWF.

The following year, ECW Champion Mike Awesome jumped to WCW, then was beaten for the title by the WWF’s Tazz. Once again, it was up to Dreamer to bring the title back home to ECW. At Cyber Slam 2000 in April, Dreamer defeated Tazz for the ECW title, but never even got to wear it before he was jumped by Justin Credible and beaten in an impromptu match for the championship.

By June 2009, ECW was long gone, but its heavyweight title was still kicking around as the property of WWE (having been revived in 2006). At Extreme Rules, Dreamer finally won the title back, putting his career on the line to defeat Jack Swagger and champion Christian in a Triple Threat match.
