14 WWE Wrestlers With The Longest Gaps Between Title Reigns

9. Hulk Hogan - 8 Years, Ten Months

Bob Backlund WWF Title
WWE

In 2002, Hulk Hogan had last been seen in a WWF ring (on TV at least) in June 1993, when he lost his fifth WWF title to Yokozuna. Between his deal with WCW, his years-long on-screen burial in absentia by the WWF, and his advancing age, Hogan seemed a long-shot to win the WWF title ever again.

But a curious turn of events changed all that: The demise of WCW (eventually) led to an attempted re-launch of the nWo (including Hogan) in the WWF, which led to a match with The Rock, which led to a surprise fan reaction at WrestleMania X8, which finally led to a change in plans for the WWF title. The 48-year-old Hogan was granted one last brief run with the belt for nostalgia’s sake, defeating newly-crowned champion Triple H in April 2002 for his sixth WWF title (and this time around, it was Undisputed, having been unified with the WCW championship)
