4. WAVE (Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa) Vs. The Cult Of Mutoh (Keiji Mutoh & Taiyo Kea) Departure 2004
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7OJaG4bJ60 Tag team match aside, Misawa and Mutoh meeting in a ring together at all was one of the biggest moments in Japanese wrestling history. Both men were and are respected figures in Japan, and had never crossed paths before this match. It was brought together by a combination of both Mutoh and Misawas common desire to see more inter-promotional matches in Japan, which is something that never happened when Misawa was in Babas All Japan. To this day, this is the only time the two men ever faced off. As a comparison, imagine if Stone Cold Steve Austin and Goldberg fought each other in 1999; that is how big this match is. Though not the most technical match for either man, its the historic significance that makes this a must see. The commentators used the words Dream match for good reason. Mutoh, a.k.a. The Great Muta, was a legendary wrestler in NJPW who also made a name for himself in the US with his eye-catching gimmick and impressive ring psychology. Misawa was the ace of AJPW for over a decade, and has had more 5-Star matches than any wrestler ever. He had an amazing move-set, perfect timing, and worked the crowd like few others. Seeing these two men in action, even with the odd tag to lesser stars, is undoubtedly worth watching.
