At WWE Fastlane 2015, Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan clashed in a #1 contenders match to see who would face WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31. On the surface, it was just a match between two good guys to unify a split fan base. WWE sold The Rocks interference in the Royal Rumble as the controversial part of Roman Reigns victory. Upon looking deeper, the true controversy stemmed from the fans reaction to Daniel Bryan not winning the Royal Rumble, and #CancelWWENetwork trending immediately in the aftermath of Reigns' win. WWEs solution was to pit Roman against Bryan, and even though Reigns would never fully win Bryans fans adulation, the hope was to win some of them over, while giving Reigns a great main event match in the process. Subsequently, thats exactly what happened. Bryan and Reigns flat out just hit each other really hard, while Bryan put Reigns over as good as someone could facing an unwarranted demotion. Reigns pulled out new moves, and forced critics to acknowledge his prowess, while Bryan strung together a masterful match that proved Reigns could hang at the top of the card. Who was the crowd cheering? Daniel Bryan
