It was very cool when WWE got their former announcer/wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura to referee SummerSlam 1999 in his home state of Minnesota. It gave WWE a lot of attention. Ventura took heat from people saying he shouldn't be doing something like that, but as he pointed out Sunday was a day off so it's not like he was skipping work. A memorable moment happened early in the match when he yelled at Shane McMahon for arguing with him. Austin ended up giving Shane a Stunner. Ventura tossed Shane over the top to the floor and the crowd went wild for it. He also called Shane a "little bastard" which was pretty funny. There were plenty of stories about this finish. Austin was the WWE Champ. They wanted to put the WWE Title on Triple H. There were stories that Austin didn't want to do that, so they added Mick Foley to the match and put the title on him. That story seemed a bit farfetched. What was the more believable story was that Jesse didn't want to raise the hand of a heel (Triple H), so that's why they had Foley win. The next night on Raw, Triple H won the title from Foley. Plus, Austin worked a match against Triple H at No Mercy two months after this so they probably didn't have any issues.
