15 Best WWE SummerSlam Moments

13. Kurt Angle Not Giving Up Against Steve Austin (2001)

Any time Steve Austin wrestled Kurt Angle the match was great. They are two of the best wrestlers ever that had incredible chemistry with one another. Whether it was a regular match or a brawl, they could always find ways to make it interesting. It also didn't matter who was the face and who was the heel, but at SummerSlam 2001 it was Austin in the heel role while Angle was gaining popular as a badass face that wouldn't quit. There are some fans that probably hate this match because there wasn't a decisive finish. It fit the story, though. Austin was a very confident heel champion that took on all comers. What made him fun as a heel was that he had no problem being cheap about everything he did. When a bloody Angle kicked out of three Stone Cold Stunners, Austin realized he was in for a fight so he did everything he could to end the match. Austin punched referee Earl Hebner. Mike Chioda entered the ring, Austin hit a low blow right in front of him and then he hit a Stunner on Chioda. When ref Tim White entered, Austin nailed him in the face with the WWE Title. It looked like Angle was going to win the WWE Title, but heel referee Nick Patrick called for the DQ finish. It was such an emotional final three minutes. Then when it was over, Angle put Patrick in the Ankle Lock and tapped out. Jim Ross was freaking about how it wasn't right. Great end to an excellent match.
