15 Biggest Losers In WWE SummerSlam History
1. John Cena (8 Losses)
That’s right - this may be the only time you’ll ever see John Cena
at the top of a “biggest losers” list, so savour the moment, folks! In at
number one is the face that runs the place, but for once it’s due to a record he won’t
necessarily want.
Since 2004, Cena’s exemplary work-rate has seen him feature in every single SummerSlam show. Ten of those 12 appearance have been title bouts of some form or another, but more incredible still is the fact that eight of the dozen have ended in defeat.
It all started so well with wins over Booker T and Chris Jericho in 2004 and ’05.
But in 2006, Edge successfully defended his WWE title against Cena, Batista beat him in 2008 and then so did Orton the following year with the WWE title on the line once more - revenge for Cena’s victory two years’ prior in ’07.
2010 then saw him lead Team WWE to a win over Team Nexus, before a five-year losing streak ensued, a list that consists of staring at the lights for CM Punk (twice), Daniel Bryan, Brock Lesnar and, most recently, Seth Rollins.
In what will rather stunningly be his 13th successive SummerSlam, will he take his record to nine defeats this year? With AJ Styles posing a sizeable challenge, you wouldn’t want to bet against it.
Regardless, the fact that he’s put over so many at
SummerSlam is arguably far more important than the health of his win-loss
ratio. Still, for perhaps the first time in his entire life, Cena is the biggest loser.
