15 Bizarre Wrestling Gimmicks You Won't Believe Happened More Than Once
12. Transracial Weirdo
Super orange white lady Rachel Dolezal made headlines in 2015 by claiming that she believed herself to be "transracial." Many in the media scoffed at Ms. Dolezal's claim, but scholars of professional wrestling know better. It is indeed possible to change one's race. To wit, I've seen it happen thrice. The most recent example is the curious case of Chavo Guerrero, who shed his Latino heritage to become golf enthusiast Kerwin White. Before that, WCW placed West Virginian hilljack Jamie Noble under a mask, transforming him into the definitely-Asian Jamie-San. But the first and greatest such transformation came in the lumpy, blue-and-yellow form of Akeem, the African Dream. Unlike the others, we actually got to see the process that altered the subject's race. The legendary Doctor of Style, Slick, arranged for African tribesmen of some stripe to perform a sacred ritual in an urban parking lot. This transformed the former One Man Gang into the jive-talking, dashiki-wearing Akeem. Now that I'm thinking about the connection between Kerwin White and Akeem, though, there's nothing I want more than a long-lost segment featuring a young Dolph Ziggler presiding over an ancient Aztec ceremony to drain out all of Chavo Guerrero's ethnic blood.
