15 Bizarre Wrestling Gimmicks You Won't Believe Happened More Than Once

11. Wrestling Magician

First things first: this one isn't about wrestlers with "real" magic powers. Like, this isn't The Undertaker summoning lightning to smite Bray Wyatt's furniture or Papa Shango casting a puke spell on the Warrior. A list of those guys would be prohibitively long, and aside from showing up when the lights go out they don't have much in common anyway. No, this is a different kind of magic: the art of hokey-ass prestidigitation! Phantasio had a blink-and-you-miss-it WWE career, defeating the legendary Tony Devito on an episode of Superstars. Despite being much taller and stronger than a guy who looked like an embryonic Bull Dempsey, Phantasio still felt the need to intimidate and confuse Devito with streams of gossamer launched from his hands, and his dreaded finishing move: a schoolboy roll up, following the magical removal of a dude's underpants.
However, there's another illusionist in wrestling history: Black Scorpion, that scourge of 1990 WCW. Unlike Phantasio, the Scorpion didn't just use his on easily-defeated jobbers; he used his abilities for evil by targeting WCW's beloved Sting. He chose to do this by transforming an audience volunteer into a tiger, which he unfortunately failed to command to attack the Stinger. After months of spooky illusions, the Black Scorpion was, of course, unmasked as Gob Bluth.
