The Goldberg-Lesnar match at Wrestlemania XX was meant to be a classic that would go down history, and it was, but not for the reasons WWE had hoped. To set the stage for this match its important to remember two things. Firstly, Brock Lesnar was going to be trying his hand at professional football immediately after this match, putting his wrestling career aside. Secondly, Goldberg had signed a one year deal with the WWE which was set to expire the next night, and lets be honest, the former pro football player never really liked wrestling to begin with. So there you have it, what was supposed to be a battle of two men both of whom had meteoric rises to the top instead became a battle of two men whom both preferred professional football to professional wrestling, and the fans reacted accordingly. Though Lesnar was meant to be the heel and Goldberg the face the fans treated them both as hated heels. It didn't help that the special guest referee for this match was one of the most popular stars of all time in Stone Cold Steve Austin, giving the fans someone to focus their positive energy on. What ensued was a verbal bloodbath from the crowd and the first time a crowd reaction took over a show with chants of 'this match sucks', 'you sold out' and 'na na na hey hey hey good bye'. Fans booing and hating both combatants so much that they don't care who wins definitely ranks as one of the greatest heel moments of all time.
