15. Steve Austin vs Bret Hart - WrestleMania XIII - Double Turn
Ok so this one is a bit of a cheat. Steve Austin was the 'heel' and Bret Hart the 'face' during one of the best worked Wrestlemania matches of all time at Wrestlemania 13. The setup for the match was simple, old school traditionalist Bret 'the Hitman' Hart was embroiled in a feud with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, a brash, crass working man's brawler with a chip on his shoulder. After putting on one of the best shows in Wrestlemania history, 'The Hitman' locked Austin in his finishing move the Sharpshooter, and instead of submitting as a cowardly heel would, a bloody Austin passed out from the pain in the centre of the ring. Hart, the established face, instead of showing mercy to the evil Austin and relinquishing the hold, would instead hold on for dear life, hoping to injure the nefarious Austin. While unlike the rest of events on this list which celebrates true 'heel' moments this match has earned a place in history for the infamous nature of its finish. The succession of events in this match executed a successful 'double turn' establishing Hart as a ruthless heel and Austin as a courageous babyface, effectively launching the most successful time in wrestling history, the Attitude Era and while not a traditional 'heel' moment it certainly earns its place on this list.
