Royal Rumble 2022 wasn't a vintage entry into the fan-favourite event's glorious catalogue.

Though the chaotic January supercard's appeal will endure (if the Rumble can survive 2014 and 2015, it can survive anything), its latest outing suffered from a lack of creativity. Tropey title match finishes and big-name-but-predictable Rumble winners left fans and critics divided. In some cases, it was the writers getting in the way of the wrestlers (Rollins vs. Reigns, Lashley vs. Lesnar), and in others, a lack of tangible reasons to care about what are typically two of the most hook-laden bouts of the year (the Rumbles).

Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar are stars - and great at what they do. Nonetheless, neither took the most imaginative first step on the Road to WrestleMania.

But spurts of creativity were fortunately found elsewhere, as WWE's gifted crew of wrestlers explored the one area they do have creative control in, delivering homages, nods, and references aplenty with stylistic choices that helped them stand out from the pack, even if their booking didn't.

Anime, video games, manga, professional sports teams, iconic musicians, and more were all shouted out on this night of sartorial significance...
