14. Luther Reigns Hangs With The Best

Roman's son Luther wrestled some solid matches, man.

OK, obviously that's a joke. Big Luther Reigns wasn't 'OTC JR', but he was someone WWE saw potential in. This was back during the 'musclehead in trunks with generic rock entrance music' days - at times, it was like these dudes were coming out of a factory. Reigns, Mark Jindrak, Matt Morgan etc. There were loads of them.

Pretty much everyone would struggle to name a top Luther match. He worked well enough on pay-per-view with everyone from Eddie Guerrero to The Undertaker throughout 2004-2005, but both legends there were capable of better against more established names. So, you won't hear many gushing about Reigns vs. 'Taker from No Way Out '05.

Then, babbling in a corner someplace, you'll hear this writer mumbling about how people need to show the 19 August '04 SmackDown some appreciation. There, Luther teamed with Kurt Angle vs. Guerrero and Rey Mysterio. It was a super showing from all 4. Sure, Reigns was arguably late for a few spots here or there, but he generally held his own whilst sharing the ring with 3 of the best.

That doesn't happen by accident. Credit where it's due: The big guy with muscles coming out of his ears looked every bit a star on the rise as Eddie and Rey bumped around for him. Kudos must go to Kurt for giving Luther plenty to do as well. He could've easily told his partner to stand on the ring apron whilst he did all the work.

Seek this one out if you've never had the pleasure.
