Nobody was surprised at the idea of Austin defeating his longtime rival, The Rock, for the WWE title in front of over 67,000 fans. Nobody was surprised that the match was an all-time classic, perhaps the greatest WWE Championship match in WrestleMania history. What did bowl people over was the fact that Austin turned heel in the match's final stage, accepting help from McMahon as they dually punished Rock with a steel chair assault. Austin's beer-sud celebration with McMahon to the strains of Disturbed's rendition of the Stone Cold theme remains a surreal sight all of these years later, and it was the effective end of the unforgettable Attitude Era.
