15 Most Unusual Ways To Win A WWE Title

Not all of these title victories are remembered fondly, but there's no denying they're uniquely unusual.

WWE, and pro-wrestling in general are faced with balancing the dynamics of presenting themselves as a legitimate sport while making sure they're entertaining the fans at the same time. To give the illusion that WWE is a sporting company, they have titles, in order to create a sense of competition and a reward system that actual real-life sports have. Despite the scripted nature of wrestling and the fact that whoever holds the titles is determined by storyline writers, they have actually managed to accrue a sense of prestige (in spite of attempts to unpick it, but that's another issue). Winning a title is a pretty big deal, and it's important to keep it that way to maintain the illusion that wrestling is a sport. In terms of being entertaining however, WWE have to keep fans interested in their product. They do this by introducing not just new characters, but new rules, match types and situations to keep our attention. Inevitably, WWE's range of titles is crucial to storytelling, so there's been several times the circumstances and ways that those titles have changed hands, rather than just a traditional thrre-count. Doing this not only keeps us engaged as an audience, but it also makes sense that these characters will resort to anything and everything to get hold of a title. Over the years we've seen titles won in weird ways; from voice-recordings, to cheating, lying and all the way to a kick in the crotch, WWE writers have found ways to make the exchange of championships as unpredictable and exciting as they can. Not all of these title victories are remembered fondly, but there's no denying they're uniquely unusual.
