The Hardcore title has a pretty colourful history, and of all the championships WWE has ever had, the frequency and circumstances surrounding each title change varies like no other. Throughout its history, the Hardcore title was known to change hands several times in several minutes, be won during matches, backstage, by women and much more zany ways and means. Perhaps the most unusual way the Hardcore title was won was when the champion was completely unaware of it. With the introduction of the 24/7 defense ruling, the Hardcore title was up for grabs, anywhere, anytime; even in the dead of night. Mean Street Posse member Pete Gas was the first to truly take advantage of the stipulation, who literally caught the champion Crash Holly napping. Holly was catching a few z's in Newark Airport when Pete Gas, with referee in tow, pinned Crash while he was asleep. Sadly for Pete, the commotion woke Crash up, and he immediately won the title back, but it gives him the distinction winning a title from a champion in dreamland.
