Getting on the wrong side of a referee probably isn't the best idea, as their decisions affect the outcome of your match. This is especially true in championship matches, because the fate of your title rests in their hands. Back when Triple H was WWE Champion back in 2000, he managed to rile up match referee Earl Hebner during his a title defense against Chris Jericho. He then made the ultimate mistake of getting physical, shoving him down to the mat as the match neared its conclusion. Jericho then hit the Lionsault, and Earl made a suspiciously fast count, crowning him as the new WWE Champion. The crowd went nuts, and it was ashocking and glorious moment both for Jericho and the fans, but it was ultimately short-lived. Triple H caught up with Hebner backstage, and pressured him into admitting the he fast-counted and wrongly awarded Jericho the championship. Earl admitted the count was fast, and Hunter was given his title back. Although Jericho's brief reign never officially made it into the record books, we still have the memories; and winning by fast-count remains a possible way of winning a match, and with it, a title.
