Whilst he’ll forever be remembered for his long-running Wrestlemania streak, The Undertaker wasn’t always as successful when it came to SummerSlam.

Despite a hugely impressive 9 victories at the event, the Phenom also has 5 losses (and 1 ‘no contest’) on his record.

After winning his first 4 SummerSlam matches, ‘Taker would then go on to lose the following 3. The first of which was a shocking double-cross as Paul Bearer betrayed Undertaker and sided with Mankind in 1996’s Boiler Room Brawl. After that came another screwed-up finish when special referee Shawn Michaels accidentally nailed the Deadman with a steel chair at the 1997 show, allowing Bret Hart to grab the victory and the WWF Championship. Then came a failed attempt at Steve Austin’s WWF Title in 1998.

More shenanigans occurred in 2004 when Undertaker suffered a DQ defeat to WWE Champion JBL, which was followed at SummerSlam 2005 asRandy Orton got revenge on the Phenom for his WrestleMania defeat earlier in the year.

With Brock Lesnar in his sights, it remains to be seen whether it’ll be ‘Taker’s win or loss record that gets added to come this year’s SummerSlam.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010.
