15 Things We Learned From Scott Steiner: Live And Uncensored

12. Going To WWE In 1993 Was A Mistake

Their issues with Bill Watts and the lack of opportunity for upward mobility or an increase in pay led the Steiners to Vince McMahon's WWF in 1993. Scott says that Vince McMahon managed to sell them on the company and all the incredible opportunities they would have there, but that the reality of it was far from what he'd hoped it would be. It's no secret that the mid-90s was not a great time to be a WWF Superstar. Vince was embroiled in a steroid trial at the time and facing some serious jail time. Business was down, which meant that payoffs were down and, creatively, the company was approaching an all-time low. The Steiners had some good matches in the company (particularly the one-time-only 'lost' classic against Bret and Owen Hart), but their stay was underwhelming overall. They were there for just over a year before deciding to leave for a well-paying gig with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Looking back, Steiner said he wish they'd never made the move to New York and would've stayed with WCW instead.
