15 Things You Didn't Know About WrestleMania (1995 - 2004)

14. WrestleMania XII - Razor Ramon Was Supposed To Be Heavily Featured

Goldust battled Rowdy Roddy Piper in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl at WrestleMania XII in one of the more memorable matches of the evening. The benefit of this match was that Piper had one last WrestleMania "match" and Goldust received his first WrestleMania 'moment'. It was one of the more brutal matches of 1996 given the shoot-style feel and intense physicality of it. Incredibly, the match wasn't even supposed to happen. Intercontinental Champion Goldust was supposed to face Razor Ramon in a Miami Street Fight instead. Their feud feud that had been brewing since late December. Around this time, the real-life Scott Hall had contemplated signing with WCW after Vince McMahon refused to improve the longtime fan-favorite's pay or merchandising deal. Hall gave Vince several chances to keep The Bad Guy in the WWF but eventually gave his notice shortly before WrestleMania XII. Not-so-coincidentally, Hall was then suspended for failing a drug test which kept him off the WrestleMania card. The original artwork of WrestleMania XII had Razor on the poster as he was meant to be a big part of the event, but instead, Roddy Piper took his place and The Bad Guy would be out of the Federation less than two months later.
